Women, Studied
Drawing inspiration from the late Academic Art movement and Italian marble statues of the 17th century, this collection foregrounds the reason I was drawn to fashion design: the beauty of the female body. As celebrated in art for centuries, womanhood is characterised by acceptance, love and grace. With a limited colour palette and extensive exploration of materials, this collection aimed to create silhouettes that flatter, shock, and exude confidence.
One of my favourite childhood memories is watching my mum dancing to Bananarama’s “Venus” on a Sunday morning, spatula in hand. Dance reveals a certain freedom of expression you otherwise miss, a fluidity of movement that I wished to replicate through clothing.
My love for fashion was born out of my love for the female body. Womanhood is characterised by grace, love, and acceptance. The pieces in this collection are highly personal, each reflecting a part of my own journey toward understanding and accepting the body I live in. The women who walk in my dresses carry the soul of Venus with them.
